A bright, clear purple/magenta colour with a light ruby rim. This is a Madiran which amazingly says ‘drink me now’. The nose offers copious aromas of plum, blackcurrant, cherry and even a hint of fresh apple, with subtle notes of cream and tobacco. The palate is light, airy and fresh encompassing flavours of red, black and white fruits, with hints of Asian spice and bitter chocolate, agreeably soft tannins and really juicy acidity.
Made by the Lesgourges family of Chateau Laubade fame (one of the truly great Armagnacs). Chateau Peyros is a 17th century estate of some 20 hectares with a ‘terroir’ resulting from the ‘moraines pyreneennes’ which is a clay and limestone soil packed with rolled pebbles set down by glaciers.

"Have to say, I love the smell of these sorts of wines. Plum, iron filings, black olive, a dusting of pepper and dried herb. Medium bodied, a little chewy and tannic, but the freshness of Franc keeps this ticking along nicely. No great length but it’s really good drinking. Score aside, it’s something I’d choose to drink over plenty of other wines at a similar price."
