The terroir of Canon-Fronsac is a geological extension towards the southwest of the great appellation of Saint-Émilion. One finds there the “calcaires à astéries” a limestone geological formation unique to France and found in this region giving the wine a distinctive character. To the north extend the vineyards of Fronsac.
The perfect exposure of this vineyard and the traditional methods of winemaking give rise to colourful wines, full-bodied and made with finesse.
The wine is matured in oak barrels (30% new) for 20 months.

This is another good wine from the tiny subregion of Canon-Fronsac near Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux. Fresh aromatics of ripe plums and chocolate. The palate is balanced, young and fresh with spice and plum characters. A very moreish release. Rating: Good, Tasted: 2015, Sean Mitchell, The Grape Observer
2012 on the Bordeaux right bank is a vintage which most of us would qualify as “good”, often said to be offering some very enjoyable Merlot based wines with ripe raspberry and blackberry notes and silky-plush tannins, delivering wines which you’d expect to age well for 5-6 years. That’s your overall vintage rating.
Well, the Château Canon from Canon Fronsac 2012 fits the bill perfectly, it has the above and a bit more, with chocolate and liquorice adding to the complexity and some freshness on the palate, it’s quite pretty. I happily drink this wine at this stage, I think it might be as its peak with freshness and softness in sync, that said, it will comfortably carry an extra 2-3 years. Tasted in January 2018, Loic le Calvez Wine Truth
“Une robe intense et profunde, un nez puissant et gourmand aux nuances cassis et myrtilles rehausse d’un boise grille délicat, quant a la bouche, elle emporte l’adhesion par son ampleur, sa couleur, ses tanins veloutes laissant une impression d’elegance, une bouteille raffinee a savourer avec des amateurs de beaux flacons.” NOTE FROM THE GUIDE HACHETTE 2015
