Bordeaux Wine - Le Bout du Monde - Rouge 2012 (Gold Medal Winner)

  • "The End of the World" - the name of this cuvée is derived from the ancient name of the fields outside Chateau Cadillac…"Champs du Bout du Monde" or fields at the end of the world.
The 2012 vintage was not easy in Bordeaux and took considerable judgment in both the vines and chai to achieve good results. The Grand Vin of 2012 is made with soft extraction to allow the fruit to express itself both on the nose and the palate, is not over ripe, well balanced, with elegant tannins and a long finish.
The winemaking, which is supervised by M. Stephane RENIE, is focused on making traditional Right Bank wines based on the Merlot grape which is capable of creating the most hedonistic opulent and decadent wine tasting experiences. Merlot began earning its reputation for producing quality wine on the Right Bank back in the 18th Century and the highest priced wines of Bordeaux today are still based on Merlot and Merlot blends.
Merlot perfectly expresses the terroir at Chateau Cadillac, home of Domaine Serisier, where the objective is to create wines that are fruity, round and elegant.
Made from Merlot grapes the terroir is comprised of ideal, free draining clay and limestone soils over a deep bedrock of limestone. Situated on a plateau at an altitude of 55 metres it is perfectly situated with maximum exposure to the sun for ripening of the grapes.

"Beautiful, intense dark colour. Ripe fruit on the nose, fresh and slightly creamy. Plenty of luscious taste on the palate. The wine offers the drinker a soft body, abundant flavour, and feels as easy on the palate as a hand in its glove. Fleshy tannins. Savoury finish. The first vintage, 2012, is a masterstroke. Full bodied but not too firm, this 100% merlot seems to be energised by its clay and limestone soil. The grape remains perfumed, not cooked, not candied. There is maximum flavour and one must make an effort to spit it out. Its balance is such that we forget which grape it’s made of. It’s only the taste that matters. This constitutes its originality. From the start the vintage places itself within the élite of Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieurs, two labels whose potential will be discovered when entrepreneurs decide to devote as much work on them as they do on crus classés. M. Serisier’s Australian origins, a different wine culture from that of Bordeaux, help him to go beyond the artificial boundaries imposed between appellations that I myself have often found baseless."

“The colour is pretty deep purple. The bouquet is wide open with aromas of cherries, blackberries, delicate sweet spices and a floral touch. The palate is velvety, ripe tannins are coated with a skin of good quality, the mid-palate is round, full and fruity. The final good length remains velvety, fresh, fruity and floral." Rated 14.5

    COLOUR: deep, rich, vivid colour with purple edge veering to ruby. Bright and attractive;
NOSE: Open, generous nose of ripe fruit. Black fruits with notes of cassis. Nose evolves with aeration into a clean, warm and fresh bouquet with Merlot predominating. The nose is perfumed but retains freshness with fragrant florality.
PALATE: Above all smooth, deep-fruited and spicy. Has character. Classical Merlot flavours. Wine is relatively complex, well-structured and complete. Good; fresh and clean acidity. Smooth, almost silky, totally integrated tannins. The tannins and the acidity will ensure that the wine ages gracefully without deviating. Attractive underlying minerality. Good length and lingering aftertaste. A ripe, well-fruited, easy-drinking, supple and pleasant wine.

Tasting Notes from the 2013 Bordeaux Primeurs
"Fruits noirs, bouche souple, ronde, fruity, plaistante, bien donfu, a boire dans sa jeunesse"
Jacques DUPONT, Le Point, 16 May 2013

Absolutely delicious and definitely worthy of its gold medal. Good colour, bags of fruit on the nose, beautifully balanced, silky with a touch of vanilla, good length and a lovely floral finish giving it the complexity I love. It definitely improves in the glass; it has taken me two days to finish the bottle and the last glass was as good as the first!

92 points Drinking 2016-26 The fruit on the nose is bright and fresh the start of the palate has a mix of bilberry and cassis. There is mid richness and sweetness black plums and ripe black cherry and although lighter and firmer at the back the finish has dark chocolate richness.
Derek Smedley, Master of Wine, tasted in UK March 2016

Score: 92/100 Bordeaux wines are generally blends of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot. This is all merlot. It’s a fruit-driven wine and there are aromas and flavours of dark berries, violets, liquorice bullets and cedar. The fruit is complemented by gravelly tannins that call out for a roast lamb and a lengthy, savoury finish.
Ben Thomas, The Weekly Review, Melbourne, April 2016

Note: 89/100 Robe grenat évolué, reflets rubis. Nez épanoui et plaisant, fruits rouges et noirs compotés, note torréfiée, cacaotée, bois vanillé. Attaque veloutée, bouche soyeuse, aux tanins élégants. L'ensemble est harmonieux. Le fruit est net, précis. Très réussi! “Garnet evolved, ruby highlights. Fulfilled and pleasant nose, red fruit compote and black, roasted notes, cocoa-flavored, vanilla wood. Velvety attack, silky palate, with elegant tannins. All is harmonious. The fruit is clear, precise. Very successful!"
    Gilbert & Gaillard Dégustation : année 2016

A rich wine, a merlot of 100% cepage. There is a hint of New World thinking from the prominent fruit aromas (conserve, red fruits, white flowers) and nose richness from 15 months in French oak barrels (five makers) giving chocolate, mint and generous fruit complexity. The three weeks vatting gives robust yet gliding tannins, fullness and depth of after-flavours of cedar and oak camphor, spice and flavour density. It continues to build in the bottle since bottling: it shows pedigree in a region with more than 700 years of viticultural experience on these same soils. It enjoys breathing, aerating or decanting for up to a day.
